Pactel Delivers an Innovative Contracted Bandwidth Pool Solution

SYDNEY, July 4, 2013 - Pactel International has been chosen by a major telecommunications provider in Tonga, Tonga Communications Corporation (TCC), to deliver a contracted bandwidth pool solution between the kingdom’s main island, Tongatapu and two remote islands, Ha’apai and Vava’u. Initially, the bandwidth will be allocated to provide connectivity into the remote islands, which will automatically redeploy to Tangatapu during an unexpected failure in the Tonga-Fiji fibre network.

Protocols such as VoIP, MAIL and HTTP are given priority, while non-critical services such as Peer to Peer will be blocked or slowed for the duration of a fibre system failure. The new network enables better diversity allowing supporting automatic redundancy of IP traffic whilst the use of network resources remains optimized.“We required a robust communication network to provide connectivity into the remote islands of Tonga, as well as a back-up solution to our existing fibre network”, said Rizvi Jurangpathy, Acting Chief Executive Officer at TCC. “It is important for our business to have redundant infrastructure with fault-tolerant failure recovery to offer resilient services to our customers. Contracted and readily available bandwidth allows us to offer these capabilities in an efficient manner”, added Mr Jurangpathy.

“Redundancy is a critical part of every operator’s architecture”, said Andrew Taylor, General Manager at Pactel International. “Pactel’s satellite platforms out of Sydney are ideally suited to reach all Pacific Island nations and provide the peace of mind operators require in case of a catastrophic failure of their fibre networks”, Mr Taylor added.
